Role Purpose

Responsible for the overall strategy, governance, performance, and reporting of HK Express' sustainable development, specifically in the areas of environmental affairs, climate change, modern slavery, corporate social responsibilities, and community engagement.

The job holder is to be the champion and the primary spokesperson in these areas to internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities:

1. Sustainable Development (SD) strategies, Planning, Target Setting, and Performance Monitoring

  • Develop overall SD strategy, implementation plan, establish applicable targets, and monitor related performance for the airline; and
  • Guide the development of the supporting strategy and implementation in the aspects of climate change, sustainable aviation fuel, carbon reduction, single-use plastics and waste reduction, community engagement, and corporate social responsibilities.

2. SD Governing

  • Regular review and revise the sustainable development governance structure to ensure we meet with regulators' requirements and adopt best practices;
  • Executive various governance meetings, and provide updates to stakeholders;
  • Ensure the Company is compliant with any legal requirement as related to sustainable development, climate change; including but not limited to CORSIA, EU ETS etc.

3. Community Engagement & External Stakeholders Engagement

  • Advocate sustainable development within the Company;
  • Consult with advise and work with various business units to ensure sustainability consideration are built in as part of on-going business practices;
  • Work close with the Corporate PR team on issues handling / communication / promotion and Marketing Communications team for proper storytelling with aim to build up the brand and reputation in these areas;
  • Plan and oversees the execution of community engagement initiatives. Regular review and revision of such initiatives;
  • Engagement with local NGOs, academia, think tank, government officials, especially in the aspect of environmental protection and corporate social responsibilities;
  • Represent HK Express in industry groups, cross-sectorial organizations, and various external environmental or community engagement events; and
  • Support the wider sustainability objectives of Cathay Pacific & Swire Group.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor Degree in environmental science/ sustainable development/ aviation/ business administration or other related disciplines;
  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in aviation, sustainable development, environmental affairs, community engagement, or corporate affairs;
  • Good knowledge of sustainable development in the context of a commercial world, especially in the aviation industry;
  • Understanding and sensitivity towards public sentiment in Hong Kong and global environmental and sustainable development topics;
  • A strategic thinker and good planner, with deep understanding of change management, communications, and reputation management;
  • Ability to engage at the senior level; and to facilitate and lead cross-functional initiatives;
  • Excellent written English and Chinese;

  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail;
  • Goal-oriented self-starter;
  • Strong administrative skills;
  • Ability yo handle and prioritize multiple and varied tasks, while meeting all deadlines;
  • Positive attitude towards work and willingness to work part of the team;
  • Ability to maintain a broad focus/interest in the aviation and travel industry.

Please note that with effect from 1 June 2022 onwards, all HK Express employees and contractors who work in our premises in Hong Kong must have received a third dose of COVID 19 vaccine. Being tested regularly for COVID-19 is not an option. Consideration will be given to those who are unable to get vaccinated for valid medical reasons.
